The Bureau of Fire Prevention's responsibility is to enforce the New Jersey Uniform Fire Safety Code. This code is designed to protect the public from fire safety hazards in commercial businesses.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention is responsible for registering all commercial businesses either with the Division of Fire Safety or this office, the local enforcing agency as applicable. Every Business in Hazlet Township is required to register with The Bureau of Fire Prevention.

Commercial Business Registration Fees
A registration fee is due at the time of application. All businesses are required to renew their business annually.
Fees
- 0-2500 Square Feet = $125.00
- 2501-5000 Square Feet = $200.00
- 5001-7500 Square Feet = $250.00
- 7501-10,000 Square Feet = $300.00
- 10,000 Square Feet and up = $675.00
The square footage will be confirmed at time of inspection.
Fire Inspections
- Fire inspections are conducted annually, semi-annually, and/or quarterly as applicable
- The fire official/inspector will introduce themselves, present identification, and inform any person of the inspection
- The fire official/inspector should be provided with any required paperwork such as a sprinkler and/or fire alarm inspection report
- A representative of the occupant is requested to accompany the inspector during the inspection.
- The representative should have keys or other methods to access all areas to facilitate the inspection
- A report will be emailed/mailed to the business of any violations
- A certificate of inspection will be provided when the business is compliant.
- If locks have been changed or updated a key should be available for the Knox box
