
Residential Fire Compliance Inspections
A Certificate of Fire Compliance is required as per N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.3 for residential dwellings at time of resale, change of tenancy, or change of occupancy. Applications are processed online only, use the Residential Inspection tab, this will redirect you to the application.
PLEASE NOTE: A Construction Permit Clearance letter stating there are no open permits for the property must be obtained from Hazlet Township Construction Department prior to approval of the Fire Compliance Inspection.
- A Fire Compliance Certification is required for any change of occupancy or ownership.
- A Fire Compliance Certification is required for any change of tenancy.
- Applications are applied for through the website, use the "residential inspection" tab.
- The fee will be paid during the application process, the fee is $75.00 for the inspection, re-inspection fee is $25.00
- An inspection date may be requested after payment, approval of the inspection will be pending until final review of the applications by the Bureau of Fire Prevention. The inspection date request should be within 7-10 days of the closing

- Fire Compliance Certificates are non-transferable
Update for Resale of Property and Change of Tenancy as of Sept 1, 2025.
Be advised as of September 1, 2025 Hazlet Township has made new requirements for any resale, change of ownership, change of occupancy, or change of tenancy.
For a residential resale you must obtain:
- A Construction Permit Clearance release from Hazlet Township Code Enforcement Department
- A Fire Compliance Certificate from The Bureau of Fire Prevention
- A Certification of Resale from Hazlet Township Code Official
For a residential rental you must obtain
- A Construction Permit Clearance Release from Hazlet Township Code Enforcement Department
- A Landlord license from Hazlet Township Housing Bureau
- A Fire Compliance Certificate from The Bureau of Fire Prevention
- A Certificate of Residential Rental Unit from Hazlet Township Code Official
